Joaquín Amenábar learned bandoneón tunning, restauring and bellows construction with Jorge Wekkesser, "El Alemán de Barracas" who inmigrated in Argentina in 1930 from Hamburg, Germany. He worked in his attelier along the last five years of Wekkeser's life tunnig and repairing bandoneons with him.
He was invited to share experience and information about bandoneón tunning by the Institut für Musikinstrumentenbau of Zwota, Klingenthal, Germany in January 2001for the project of rebuilding the Arnold Bandoneón in Carlsfeld, Germany where the old factory of Alfred Arnold was placed
He has given master classes in different universitys and forums about the instrument, its evolution starting from the concertina, the placing of the notes in the keyboard, methods of learning the instrument, as well as classes for composers and arrangeurs on writing for bandoneón.
